Borrow Educational Curriculum from Colonial Era, England systems of Education (Focus on Edu-development and history)

Image
Introduction Early days: quiet before the storm Up until the early 1980's we had a very traditional and elite higher educational system. There were some 38 Universities in England and these catered fur about 14% of the 18-21 age cohort, in other words about 1 in 7 young people went into University on leaving school. The vast majority of students who wanted to go to University stayed at school until they were 18. By that time they had done some 6 years of "high school", learning along rather specialist lines; thus the typical student took either an Arts or a Science track, without very much material from the other. At the end of their fifth form, at age 16, they took the first major public examination, the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary level) in typically 6 or 8 subjects. They then went into the "sixth form" to study (usually) three subjects to the higher level which they would then offer for the General Certificate of Education (Advanced leve...

The beginning we cannot Ignored

Image
Before the British arrived in the early nineteenth century, there were two major types of education in Nigeria. In the Islamic north, education was strictly religious in nature. In each Muslim community, a mallam drilled children as young as five years old in the teachings of the Qur'an and the Arabic alphabet. During the colonial era, larger cities set up more expansive Islamic schools that included subjects such as math and science. In 1913, these Islamic schools, almost all in the north, numbered 19,073 and enrolled 143,312 students. In the 1970s the government took control of the Islamic schools, but in the 1990s, the schools were allowed to operate independently again. The indigenous system was the second type of education before the British occupation. Students were taught the practical skills needed to function successfully in traditional society. Usually children within two or three years of age belonged to an age-group. Together, they learned the customs of their communi...

Read yourself to the brighter future. Win the dotpar education award You are the best author of your own future. So, the next time you sit down to writer your story, remember that you are the creator of the best chapters that could ever be written. Catherine Pulsifer. Lack of Reading culture has generated poor markets for books in Africa due to poor patronage while their authors are becoming irrelevant in the society due to lack of recognition. Unlike musicians who start making waves in the music industry after releasing an album, which may and in most cases, contains amoral messages.
